Budaka Women Vendors Association (BUWOVA)

Budaka Women Vendors Association was formed in 2018 to provide financing and networking opportunities to women vendors in the District of Budaka in Eastern District part of Uganda. The Association was established because in Budaka District in particular and Uganda in general, women vendors are usually silenced, ignored and undervalued and are still excluded from the decisions that affect them, their families and communities and yet they play a key role in transforming communities. The Association supports, promotes, empowers and recognizes Women Vendors in the District.

Our Members

Membership to the Association is open to all women vendors in Budaka District. These may be women market and street vendors. Membership is also open to women’s groups and organizations working for the empowerment of Women vendors in particular and women in general

Our Program areas and Activities

Budaka Women Vendors Association

Addressing discrimination and Gender based Violence

We work to empower women vendors to address the challenges they face including discrimination andgender-based violence in market and public places.

Conflict Resolution and Peace Building

We organize dialogues with authorities aimed at highlighting out the challenges women vendors face and propose solutions.

Women’s Rights and advocacy

We conduct media campaigns to raise awareness on the rights of Women Vendors. We work with local governments to be supportive and ensure a safe environment for women vendors

Capacity Building

We provide our members with training, technical and financial resources that enable women vendors conduct business.
